Copper Mountain is a mountain resort community in Summit County, Colorado, located along the Tenmile Range between Frisco and Leadville. The area is centered on Copper Mountain, whose ski terrain rises from a base area near 9,700 feet to elevations above 12,000 feet. The resort is known for terrain that follows the mountain's natural contours, with easier slopes generally lower on the mountain and more challenging terrain toward the higher elevations. Beyond winter skiing and snowboarding, Copper Mountain operates as a year-round recreation destination with hiking, mountain biking, scenic chairlift rides, and other outdoor activities.

The Copper Mountain area sits within the traditional lands of Indigenous peoples who traveled through the central Colorado mountains for hunting and seasonal activities. Later development in the region was shaped by prospecting, mining, railroads, and settlement throughout Summit County. Copper Mountain's modern identity is closely connected to its ski resort, which developed around the natural shape and varied elevation of the mountain. The community also has ties to Colorado's broader mining heritage, with nearby towns such as Frisco and Leadville preserving historic buildings and museums that interpret the region's mining and transportation history.

Copper Mountain's environment changes considerably with elevation, ranging from spruce and fir forests to alpine terrain above the tree line. The resort provides access to extensive ski and snowboard terrain in winter, while summer activities include hiking and mountain biking on trails through forests and open slopes. The Tenmile Range surrounds the community, with peaks such as Jacque Peak and Union Mountain forming the local skyline. Nearby White River National Forest protects large areas of mountain landscape and provides additional opportunities for hiking, camping, fishing, and wildlife viewing. Elk, mule deer, marmots, and mountain goats inhabit the broader region.

Dining at Copper Mountain includes casual mountain restaurants, cafés, bars, and lodging-based dining, with menus ranging from burgers and pizza to Southwestern dishes and Colorado-inspired meals. The resort's compact base area allows many restaurants, shops, and recreation facilities to be reached on foot. A distinctive detail is Copper Mountain's location along the Continental Divide region, where the surrounding high peaks create pronounced differences in weather and vegetation over short distances. The community also hosts sporting events and festivals throughout the year, extending its role beyond winter recreation and connecting visitors with the wider mountain culture of Colorado.
